Whispering Vines
Daphné Deveraux is a blue-eyed French Canadian from Montreal, but her story unfolds in the vineyards of the Antunez Hacienda in Chillan, Chile. When her friend Francine dies as their plane crashes, Francine’s two-year-old child Anna and Daphne survive. Daphné is persuaded by Damian Antunez to impersonate Francine, who was Damian’s sister-in-law, because Damian’s ailing mother, Dona Isidora, has not recovered from the recent loss of her son Raùl, Francine’s husband. Daphné agrees to the deception in order to stay close to Anna. Daphné’s life has become filled with deceit—trying to be Francine for Dona Isidora and trying to keep her own feelings for Damian a secret. Damian does not hide that he suspects Daphné to be a gold digger, but he does conceal his own attraction to her. The machinations of Raùl’s former fiancée and the interference of other men interested in Daphné further complicate their relationship.
